Welcome to Neighbourhood Noise. We are an Ottawa-based music promotion brand focusing on written articles and online content creation.

Founded in 2021 by Jack O’Sullivan and Ethan Grove, Neighbourhood Noise is the place for all things Ottawa music. As a musician in Ottawa you often feel as though to get anywhere you have to move away, but with so many talented artists in the city that shouldn’t be the case. Our goal is to highlight the fantastic work being done around the city and bring support to the artists that live here.

I have been obsessed with music my whole life and grew up spending all my time either listening to or playing music. After cycling through many different instruments I landed on my main three: guitar, piano, and bass. I started doing photography in 2016 by taking skateboarding photos which eventually led me to concert photography. I studied Music Industry Arts at Algonquin college from 2019-2021 and after graduation, I began looking to break into the industry.

Growing up, I always loved music. I tried learning various instruments throughout my childhood, finally settling on the drums. Playing drums throughout high school, both as a hobby and in my school band, I realized that while it was fun, it wouldn’t be the impact I made on the Ottawa music scene. After getting my diploma in journalism, I realized I could combine my education with my high school hobby and make my impact on the scene by writing about the amazing musicians around Ottawa.

For as long as I can remember, I have adored music. I picked up a guitar for the first time when I was 8 years old and I never looked back. I spent my teenage years doing everything in my power to surround myself with music, skateboarding and others who wanted the same, which led me to start playing in local punk bands at the age of 14. This is where I discovered the beauty and power that live music possesses. From that moment onward, I knew that my life would forever be intertwined with music in any capacity I could find.

Growing up, it was challenging to find something to be passionate about, it was not until later in life that I decided to dive into the visual arts. I started off with a drawing pad using Photoshop and throughout the last couple of years, I have expanded more in digital art, comic art and logos. Music has always been essential for my drawings and with friends in the Ottawa music scene, it opened my eyes to what I was missing. Now I can continue while also supporting the incredible musicians of Ottawa.

As a boy, I was conscripted (by my friends in middle school) to play bass guitar. Up until this point, I had been nothing but a choir boy, but this was my awakening. Since that fateful day, I have played in tons of bands: from hardcore, to Irish party music, to top 40 covers, to alt country. I’ve been floating around the Ottawa music scene for over a decade, other than a few years away for university. Once the smoke cleared after the pandemic, I was eager to help build back the Ottawa scene. I have worked with Spectrasonic and Ottawa Chamberfest in marketing. What I am probably most known for in the scene is playing guitar in The New Hires.
